Main Info

The pure natural beauty of this beach captures the heart of anyone who visits and transports you to another place. Falasarna (Phalasarna) is located in the West of Crete and has been voted as one of the top 10 beaches in all of Europe, several times over.

Located at the western base of the Gramvousa peninsular, Falasarna bay is a line of beaches like no other. Each beach along its coastline has different characteristics making them loved by many people for many reasons. Whether you love to wind-surf, snorkel, swim or relax, Falasarna is sure to enchant and amaze anyone who visits.

We will start our tour by going to the BIOLEA, a family-owned Organic Olive-Oil pressing mill in the small village of Astrikas (Kolymbari). It is here that you will be guided through the innovative techniques used to produce their award-winning products and to have a small insight into the traditional Cretan production methods by seeing it for yourself from a birds-eye view of the entire olive oil production process. After this fascinating tour, you will be led to the tasting area where you will have a chance to savour the incredible flavour of their distinctive products. This whole experience at BIOLEA will take between 45-60 minutes.

We will then continue by going to the incredible beach of falasarna where the power of its beauty and breath-taking views will transport you to another place. It is here that you will have 3-4 hours to relax and enjoy the crystal-clear waters, white sand of its main beach and plentiful food from the beach-side tavernas.

After your time on the beach, we will continue our journey to the Pnevmatikakis Winery, in Kissamos. It is here that you will have an in-depth guided tour around the facilities; wine museum and finally end your day with the perfect wine tasting experience in the early evening sunshine.

We can customise this tour and visit the winery before we travel to falasarna if you would prefer. We only suggest this setting as we feel it’s the best way for you to end the day sipping hand-crafted wines in the early evening Cretan sun.

BIOLEA is a family-owned company that specializes in the artisan production of organic olive oil using millstones and presses. Their products are exclusively estate-produced and it is here that, later on, we will taste some of their innovative creations. The BIOLEA estates have been hands-on producers for more than 6 generations. In North-western Crete, (within the area of Kolymbari) sits the small village of Astrikas and it is here where the family’s’ organic olive groves are located.

On this guided tour you will learn the Cretan tradition in olive-oil production and olive-oil quality. In this guided tour you will learn how the olive-oil is produced during the winter and you will also see a birds-eye view of the entire olive oil production process from a viewing platform. Once the facility tour is over you will be led to a tasting area where you will be given the chance to taste three very special varieties that BIOLEA creates. The first is their ESTATE ORGANIC OLIVE OIL; NERANTZIO (with a taste of orange blossom); (and) LEMONIO (with fresh organic lemons).

BIOLEA is always striving for excellence with their products by combining tradition and innovation whilst remaining environmentally accountable and welcoming tourism. The friendly and warm environment they provide in their tours encompasses their passion and drive for nature’s purest product from these ancient and beloved trees.

WINERY TOUR AND TASTING

Kissamos in north-west Crete has a long tradition of winemaking and it’s here that the Pnevmatikakis Winery is located.

The modern facilities; specific varieties; quality control and their passion for wine are just some of the elements that separate this winery from many others in the area. The Pnevmatikakis Family is engaged in the science, study, and preservation of winemaking from generation to generation, and their passion is shown within each variety of wine that they produce.

Pnevmatikakis winery grows many traditional varieties of grapes such as; Romeiko, Kotsifali, Mantilari, and Liatiko (for red wines) and Vilana, Vidiano and Moschato of Spina (for white wines). This winery also grows international grape varieties such as Cabernet, Syrah, and Merlot (for red) and Chardonnay (for white). Their attention to detail is second to none and this is reflected in the names and drawings of the labels which are inspired by Crete’s long-standing tradition with cultivating the land and protecting it for the future.

On the upper floor of the Winery is the Wine Museum and it’s here that you can learn about the daily life of the older generations on the island of Crete as well as the science and knowledge behind wine making and the production of local raki (tsikoudia).

Take a few steps out onto the panoramic veranda and it’s here your wine tasting experience will begin.
